Some Trips are Better Than Others!

So, we celebrated my 40th a month early! My wife, Juliet took me and our good friends to Northern California for a weekend to remember. The surprises started at the airport with t-shirts with my picture on it and they did not stop until we got back on the plane to come home Sunday night.

I am very happy I reached my personal training goal early because this weekend was an eating and drinking spectacle. We got off the plane and went straight to a Wind Tunnel, so we could feel what its like to SkyDive without the risk. Day 2, we got to Fly on the Trapeze just like the Real Circus. I taught the trapeze 20 years ago…what an amazing experience. And, I met my wife at a vacation resort at the foot of the trapeze  9 years ago, May 25th!!!!

Day 3 took us on the Wine Tasting Path on bikes. Well, I am fit, but my butt is not meant for a bike seat! We went 16 miles which should have been painless, but the seat and the 15mph wind in my face for the second half made it into a solid workout. I needed it, as we ate our way through the town.

Day 4 brought on a morning massage which was average at best, but the relaxation was worth every penny!

I am home now…working…but that trip will stay with me forever!

Here is the picture I took just before leaving.

6 Weeks to 40!!!

6 Weeks to Go!

Remember This..Day 1!

Long term goals are difficult as you go through peaks and valleys of motivation. A series of short term goals is a much better plan, so you can keep one goal in focus at a time, and then go after the next.

This has been the battle with my “Road to 40.” I have a few weeks where I feel as though nothing can stop me, and then life happens, and motivation and energy dissipate. I am battling this as we speak. My days are crazy busy, and my “Slow” days are not so slow.

I now understand the need to workout both with a personal trainer and early morning at my gym in Laguna Beach. If I don’t get it done before everyone else is at work, it won’t happen. As soon as my phone starts going off, it becomes very easy to find things to do and blow off the workouts.

On the other side of the fence, my diet has been pretty good. I had a Calzone the other night with my kids and felt like I had the worst meal in the world. I know when my brain works that way that I am doing well on my diet plan. When my bad cheat is a piece of pizza or frozen yogurt, I am hitting on all cylinders. Think about it…when you start your diet, Ice cream and cookies are a normal cheat. As you pull the sugar out of your diet, cleaner foods can be used as a cheat.

I still feel bad after cheating, but that is the point. It gives me a quick sweet satisfaction, and then the guilt gets me back on the diet.

So, here is the picture as promised for the 6 week countdown to 40!

I don’t know how much better it is going to get as my wife is taking me away next week and then I have a boys trip 2 weeks later. So, enjoy this one because the last one may not be so good! I will do my best though.

Thanks for all the support.
